Holding hands

He’s getting too old to hold my hand…

Ever since he was little, I have enjoyed holding his hand almost everywhere we would go. In the store, at an amusement park, walking to the car, and of course crossing the street. But lately, he’ll hold it for about 3 seconds before letting go.

“Why won’t you hold my hand any more?”
“I don’t know”
“Are you getting to big to hold your Daddy’s hand?”
“Yes, I’m going to be 10!”

I then proceed to make him aware that even when I’m 60 and he’s 30 I’ll still try to hold his hand. I’m only half kidding.

Of course I knew this day would come sooner or later. As a parent I don’t want the phase of holding hands to be over with yet. However, at the same time I know he needs this step on his journey towards independence.

I guess I’ll have to try and be strong…
